Edwardsville

Edwardsville, Ohio 1862 Map
I had no sooner finishing posting the First Universalist Church, Blanchester, OH page than up popped an 1867 map of Edwardsville with the location of the church. Across the street is a cemetery -- still in existence and still active (although the church is gone).. While I can't prove it, Warren County GenWeb suggests that it might be a Universalist Cemetery. The cemetery was established in 1835, two years before the church was built, but the same year the Universalist Society was organized. There are a number of "Baldwins" buried in the cemetery. The Baldwins were very active in the Blanchester Church, which is tied to the Church in Edwardsville (The Universalist Church of Toddsfolk). Gen. Benjamin Baldwin, an early settler was instrumental in the establishment of the church in Edwardsville (Universalist Society of Toddsfolk).
It is possible that before building their church, the Universalist utilized for worship, the school shown on the map.
