Photographer’s Statement: Centuries old crafts are in danger of vanishing from the scene. Many have been mechanized making skilled craftsmen redundant. What are left are in ageing hands. There is little interest in these crafts among those reared in a digital age. When we lose the craftsman we lose the skills, and with the loss we lose a link to our roots, to a shared heritage. They will only survive if they live in each generation. Fortunately, there are still those practicing the crafts and passing the skills on to a younger set. With some effort they are being kept alive. Perhaps the renewed interest in craft beers, spirits, coffee and chocolate will be contagious, and we will see the same revival in other crafts.
Process: Images are deeply structure, “bleached,” and color toned.
