Nixon’s Barbershop, Bartlett, Texas
Mr. Nixon has been cutting hait behind that barber chair for 47 years. The barbershop itself dates back to 1897.

Photographer’s Statement: I am old enough to remember getting my hair cut as a child in these sort of old time barber shops. To visit one today, brings back memories, memories of the smell of the talc, the after shave that the barber always touched my face with, even though I wasn’t old enough to get a shave. If there were no customers waiting, often the barber would lather my face and then “shave” me. Sometimes I just want to sit in the barber chair and remember.

Process: In this series I have used different processes, each of which to me brings out the character of the image.
