A Brand New Home
Frost's Ice House has a brand new home in the Village of Make Believe. So do the Village of Make Believe and The Whimsicle & Northern Railway! In April of this year, the village and railway moved from their temporary home to their new home in Sheffield Lake, Ohio.
While the home is new for them, their abode was built in 1938 as a Lake Erie beach cottage. The cottage stands at what was once "Stop 90: Austin Farm" om the Lakeshore Electric Railway. The interurban ran between Cleveland and Toledo with through traffic to Detroit. Ironically, the Lakeshore which was the major contributor to the rise of Lake Erie beach cottages west of Cleveland when out of business just before this particular cottage was built even though the land was platted to by served by the Lakeshore.
While that may be so, in my mind the Lakeshore Electric once ran in front of my little cottage. Undoubtedly, this "fact" will somehow enter into the new 2021 Village of Make Believe. Not yet quite sure how as the Village itself is slatted to be sea coast town rather than a lake town. Time will tell.
Although I am busy renovating and creating a flower and vegetable garden, neither the village or the railroad are ever far from my mind. New pieces, such as Frost's Ice House ($1 garage sale find) are being acquired on a regular basis.
Soon it will be October, and the building of the Village of Make Believe 2021 will commence!
