There is a wide variety of print media that can be used to enhance the print, or fit into a particular aesthetic flair or personal lifestyle
FINE ART PAPERS
Art Papers, both standard fine art photo papers and multi-purpose art papers provide excellent photo print results. Depending upon the paper, they can subdue or “pop” a print. Fine art multi-purpose papers like TorchonTM Water Color paper give both texture and depth to a print.
The advantage of canvas prints is that they offer a clean, contemporary presentation that matches many decorating styles. With canvas prints there is no need to match matting and frame colors to the print. They can be displayed near windows or light because is no need to be concerned about the glare of glass. As canvas prints fit into most home décor styles they make excellent gifts.
Fine Art Photography Canvas Prints are only as good as the canvas, this is the first rule. That is why I only use high-quality archival canvas. The inks are archival for long-lasting color. The print is UV protected from fading and sealed to minimize dirt and splashes and can be dusted with a soft cloth. Framed canvases are framed with 1″ to 1 3/8" deep wood support (3/4" is available, but not recommended) and includes canvas backing. Framed prints are ready for hanging, with no need for glass, frames, or mats. Unframed canvas prints are tube rolled. Individual frame canvas prints are printed with mirror or stretched wraps around the sides, or with a solid color. If a framed print is desired I will suggest an appropriate edge. The cost is the same for all three types of edges. I can, upon request also provide a “floating frame” at an additional cost.
Metal prints are recommended for their exceptional colors, making them perfect for colorful and high-contrast fine art photography. Since the print is burned into the metal’s special coating, the image is not effected by UV rays, dust, or moisture. It is waterproof and resistant to changes in temperature, making it the idea printing medium for bathrooms and outdoor areas. It is the perfect medium for long-term outdoor exhibitions or advertising. Metal fine art photography prints are ready for hanging out of the box (we provide several options at no extra cost). If you wish, it can also be framed. Metal fine art photography highly lends itself to presentation under acrylic “glass.” Most metal prints are compatible with gallery ledges.
Metal Fine Art Photography prints are premium products. The photo is first printed onto a high-definition transfer sheet using fine art inkjet inks. Then, in a process involving high pressure and heat, the print is steamed from the transfer sheet into the aluminum’s special coating where it is permanently sealed in. Dye sublimation, as the process is known, allows for the rendering of exact details and brilliant colors, and has excellent durability. Under normal conditions, a metal print last last a lifetime. Note though, that although metal prints are impressively true to the original, due to the printing process the surface might have minor irregularities. That said, I have never been disappointed with a metal print. [The image used above has been printed on metal with excellent results.]
Fine Art Photography Acrylic Prints offer fascinating depth, brilliant, vivid color with exceptional contrast. Images are mounted under acrylic “glass” that is crystal clear and elegant. The “glass” enhances the feeling of depth, while bringing out the print’s exact colors and details Some fine art photography images work better with a matte finish. With acrylic prints the matte finish is in the high-quality acrylic “glass,” not the print paper. Even in direct light, premium matte acrylic “glass” absorbs reflections without a loss of visual depth. Matte acrylic “glass” works well with images in muted colors or graytones (black & white).
For certain fine art photography images, metallic inks give a truly exceptional presentation. The photo paper and metallic ink combine to intensify colors and contrasts, making them appear even more dynamic. The acrylic “glass” mounting gives the image the appearance of a great physical depth.
The layered aluminum Dibond backing provides additional stability for the piece. Permanently elastic silicone holds the acrylic glass, photo, and backing together. This adhesive guarantees a dependable, solid seal. The flexible material is resistant to fluctuations in temperature and offers protection. The practical hanging systems on the back simplify the picture hanging process.
Each image is printed to archival standards.
Fine Art Photography Wood Prints are fine art photos printed directly on wood. The wood may be sustainable plywood or another wood, even bamboo (which technically is a grass). Unlike dye sublimation, with a wood print the image is printed on the wood surface, providing for a richer, more vibrant image. One of the cool things (or at least I think so) about printing on wood is how the natural lines of the wood grain show through the lighter colors of the image. It is for this reason that no white ink is used in the printing process, making it so that any white color is replaced by the natural color of the wood. Of course, this means that the color and the type of the wood used must be selected with care.
Plywood, often birch, is frequently used because no two sheets of plywood have the same grain signature. This way, every print is unique, although the same image has been used. The wood itself makes for a great frame. With this in mind, wood prints are offered in two print formats, edge-to-edge with no margin, or centered with margin. Wood prints, while not archival quality, are sealed to protect the surface, resulting in a long-lasting treasure. Although sealed, wood photo prints do not work well outdoors.
If image resolution allows for it, wood prints can be as large as 4′ x 8.’ Generally, depending upon size, the wood itself is between 1/8 and 1/2 thick. Smaller wood prints are designed to be set on a desk in a slotted holder. Special hanging considerations are necessary for larger prints.
Bamboo is an eco-friendly, sustainably harvested material that provides a beautiful mounting option. Bamboo prints are conversational starters. Offering something unusual they draw attention to the owner’s artistic flair. The beauty of bamboo lends itself to almost all photographic styles. Bamboo will do better in an outdoor setting than will wood, especially plywood. Bamboo does not lend itself to sizes over 30″ x 40.”
