The Community of Christ (formerly called the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ, or RLDS) is the largest church following Joseph Smith after The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). This is a religion that does not place much emphasis on theology (non-credal) as much as it does on social justice issues, including an emphasis on striving for world peace, feeding the hungry, and abolishing poverty. Because of this, the Community of Christ has more of a feel of a liberal mainstream Protestant denominational church than a relative of the LDS Church.
The Community of Christ is universalist in that they believe that all will attain salvation. Salvation is considered a personal matter, not subject to any doctrine. Although all will receive salvation, not all forms of salvation are equal. In the afterlife there are three kingdoms of glory. To which a person is destined depends upon how good or moral the person is. However, even the least good, the least moral will still receive salvation. Where this view differs from mainstream Christian Universalism is that in the traditional version all humankind will ultimately enter into full harmony with God regardless of how they lived their life. The Community of Christ version presents three potential degrees of harmony based on how a person lives.
The Community of Christ was founded by Joseph Smith III on April 6, 1860.
