A bit of this and that

My ultimate dream:

When I was a university professor I was fortunate to have students who passionately wanted to make a difference in their world. My ultimate sream is to be surrounded by the same, people who energetically engage the world, grapple with their own biases and preconceived notions, explore the gaps, and discover seeds of new paradigms for change. A corollary dream is to engaged with people of faith who desire and struggle to rise above the Western cultural capture of religion and rally in their life-style for a just and merciful society built on a sense of community, not greed, individual or corporate.

Scripture that colors my thinking:

Love the Lord your God with all of your heart and with all of your soul and with all of your strength (Deuteronomy 6:8).

What does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God (Micah 6:8).

Show me your faith without deeds and I will show you my faith by what I do.... As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead (James 2:18, 26).

Magazines and blogs I read:

I read a number of periodicals, journals, online papers, and blogs; some of which I agree with, and others that I don't. Nevertheless, I believe it is important to stay well informed of both sides of any issue. Some that I regularly read, but do not always (or sometimes ever) agree with are (in no particular order): "Shabbat Shalom," "Ekklesia," "Covenant & Conversation," Jubilee Centre/"Cambridge Papers," "Religion Dispatches," "Street Prophets," "Ted," "The 99 Percent," Sojourners, Acton Institute (several publications, Imprimis, Metropolis, Dwell, Z, Creativity, Land Lines, Land & People, The Journal of Heritage Stewardship, Sustain: a journal of environmental and sustainability issues, to name a few.
