Unable to Die
are the Loved

Emily Dickenson

Unable are the loved to die,
for love is immortality

"– Unable Are The Loved to Die," Emily Dickenson

Emily Dickenson was conflicted about faith. She vacillated between Calvinism and Unitarianism, between there being and not being an afterlife, between belief and unbelief. Nevertheless, I find this quote to be a perfect expression of Universalism. If God equals Pure Love, as I believe God is: Pure Love can do nothing less than grant us immortality, and if immortality is Pure Love then there can be no hell. For if hell exists, there can be no Pure Love."
