Christian Universalism is a Principled Faith
That Speaks to the Present, Not Exclusively to the Afterlife

Eternity piercing life

[What follows is a synopsis of (or introduction to) a series of forthcoming essays on Christian Universalism and the ReImagining of Christianity.]

Christian Universalism isn’t non-evangelical, yet if we are to be true to both those words – “Christian” and “Universalism – Christian Universalism turns “evangelicalism” upside down. It is no longer the tradition Christian Evangelicalism of “bringing people to Christ.” Christian Universalism isn’t even about converting people to the belief that “all are saved,” or that there is no hell. In fact, I will suggest that Christian Universalism has nothing to do with afterlife salvation and afterlife “remediation.”

Yes, it does affirm. our belief in the final harmony of all souls with God. But more to the point, Christian Universalism is about our saving our own soul in the here and now, and about the healing of the universe through our living out the words and example of Jesus. It is about creating a loving and healing community in the spirit of Jesus Christ. It is about hosting a larger table that excludes none. It is about living – acting – in harmony with God in the present moment, not in some future time.

This is evangel of Christian Universalism. This what we need to be proclaiming.
